Founded in 1966 in the historical city centre of Bern as the Founded in 1966 in the historical city centre of Bern as the "Ethnological Seminar", the Institute of Social Anthropology has developed into one of the largest institutes of ethnology/social anthropology in the German-speaking regions, with three full professors, two associate professors and many lecturers. It now accommodates a total of around 450 students.
