What We Do
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN’s global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. In Lao PDR, UNDP works to ensure that all people benefit from national development. We support growth which creates more and better economic and social opportunities, without harming the environment.

Our Goals
We are assisting Lao PDR with two critical transitions: (1) to a market economy that gives people the power of choice and (2) to become a middle-income country by 2020. Our focus is on fighting poverty, promoting effective governance, supporting improved environmental management and reducing the impact of unexploded ordnance (UXO) remaining from the Second Indochina War. We are committed to help Lao PDR achieve the global Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), as well as the Lao specific MDG 9 to reduce the impact of UXO. We also support the government’s five-year development plans and the longer-term aim to graduate from Least Developed Country status by 2020.
